The team here at Skylark are delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded two prestigious video production trophies by the international Videographer Awards. Two of our wins are in the category for Excellence, while one award sits in the top category for Distinction.
The first win was for our event filming at the 50th Awards Ceremony for Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014, hosted at The Natural History Museum.
“We’re thrilled with the results” Rosie Pook
The Natural History Museum is keen to encourage budding photographers to enter into the competition, and needed Skylark to deliver a glittering video campaign that highlighted the importance and attraction of the awards.
The team were tasked with capturing the essence of this prestigious event – from the special guests including Sir David Attenborough and the Duchess of Cambridge, to the wildlife photographers and their work.
We were the only videographers recruited for the event, and so had many objectives that needed to be met to hit the high expectations. We used three cameras; two static and one of a jib to cover the shots of the winners walking on to the stage. We also used time-lapse for the opening sequence of the film, and roving cameras before the event to capture the building excitement through vox pop style interviews.
Skylark’s second win was for an original animation TV advert for insurance company Just Landlords. The team needed to overcome the challenge of showing malicious damage by tenants in a way that was original, fun and compelling.
Our initial thoughts about tackling the subject of insurance lead us to think outside the box, and come up with a suggestion that Just Landlords use an original animation for their ad, instead of actors and a housing location.
This culminated in a beautiful, artistic and retro television advert that perfectly expressed the intended message in an engaging and creative way.
Our last Distinction award was for our work on an internal communications video for Larasian Group Recruitment.
Larasian are based in the New Forest and have to compete with Dyson for talented engineering graduates. We worked with them to create a fast-paced film that showed off the facilities of the company, staff benefits and the dynamism of the workforce. We staged meetings and set up work scenarios to portray the company at its best.
“We absolutely love the video” Rod Piwowarski
Our BBC training means that we were absolutely the right team for the job – particularly when it comes to filming on site with our clients. We know how to make the most of natural light, where the best place to do an interview is, and how to get the best from your ready-made location.
