What is a corporate video?

Corporate video refers to non-advertisement brand video created for and commissioned by a business. They can take many forms – from a company profile video to an internal communications video to staff. This blog will highlight some of the inspirational corporate videos we have gathered.

Different types of corporate video can help you fulfil specific objectives. If your company is scaling up with multiple offices in different regions, training and inducting staff can be tricky. A company-wide video can help you communicate your company’s message – saving you time and resource. Nowadays they’re most commonly published online and distributed throughout a company’s social media channels.

What is a corporate video used for?

Although corporate videos span a wide range of functions, the most common are:

  • Product or service explanation videos
  • Investor or shareholder relations videos
  • Internal training videos
  • Strategy overview videos
  • Recruitment videos

Why is selecting a good production company important?

Although when you read the word corporate you may feel slightly apprehensive, these videos (if done right) can be inspirational and engaging. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth millions. If you want to connect with your audience, or even your workers, then you can save time and money by creating a concise and efficient corporate video. Inexperienced production companies often create videos that follow a formulaic pattern of generic phrases and stock footage. However, a good production company can create original content using complex techniques such as motion design, voice-over, and cinematography to create tailored, original content.

Tips for making inspirational corporate videos

Refine your objective – Before going into pre-production, ensure you know what you’re trying to achieve from the video. This avoids creating a generic film that is uninspiring and forgettable. If you have a specific goal you want to achieve from your video, ensure this is refined and communicated effectively to your production company.

Duration- Try to keep your video short. Engagement decreases as video length increases. Unwatched video is a waste of labour and finances so ensure you are concise with your script.

Talking heads- If using talking heads (which corporate videos often do), then ensure you use a wide range of them. A diverse range of age, ethnicity and gender will ensure you are not telling a one-sided story.

Support your claims- Instead of using generic terms, show the viewer what you mean instead of saying it. If you make a statement back it up with a tangible example of how you have done this.

Production value- To show you care about your audience experience you should increase your production value by using a varied range of video techniques. Some examples of effective techniques include; drone filming; integrated graphics; kinetic typography and aesthetically pleasing lighting.

What should I be paying for a corporate video?

A inspirational corporate video can cost anywhere between £1000 to £25,000. With the average two-to-three-minute video costing between £3000 to £7000. Some contributing factors include animation and motion graphics requirements, number of shoot days and specialist equipment hire.

What should a corporate video include?

These videos often benefit from multiple talking head interviews to keep the viewer interested and to provide a diverse range of speakers. Similarly, try to include multiple locations that help visually convey your message. Using stock footage can be useful if you’re on a budget but shooting your own footage will always help synergise your footage together. Animation and motion graphics are a great way of visualising more complex ideas. Keep the script simple and concise and rely on your visuals to help support your message.
